What My Clients Say
I’ve had the privilege of supporting many businesses through critical moments.
With calm, practical support and clear direction, I’ve helped them regain control, rebuild confidence, and take steps towards lasting recovery & growth.
The right support changes everything, I can help.
“I was first introduced to Ed in the summer of 2024. As the sole director of a business things were sliding for me and I felt very much alone with my struggles and despite good intentions I was backed into a corner with nowhere to turn. Ed had a solution to my issues and one which I would never have considered. He helped me through it and has been a guiding hand ever since. We have formal monthly catch ups every month and I can call on him whenever I have questions or need more help.
His approach is always very calm and puts issues that I think are massive problems into perspective with sensible, practical advice and guidance. As well as helping with the business structure and finances he has also taken a keen interest in my wider life. He believes that without knowing your personal goals you can't make business plans to support them. He knows about my family and what I want for them. The additional benefit that Ed brings is his network of trusted experts which he introduces me to at suitable times. These individuals really know their fields of expertise and have made the impossible possible. Without Ed's help in the last 8 months I don't know where I would be. I owe him a lot more than he possibly realises.”

“Ed, and the Runway team, have been the catalyst in taking my business from a bloated, loss making oil tanker into something which is now lean, agile and able to adapt to difficult times, and grow through them. As a sole owner, their presence and solidarity has been not only key for the business, but a great relief and comfort to me as a person. Without their advice, and their presence to be relied upon, it would be a very different outcome. I look forward to Runway being a big part of our journey over the coming years.”
Alex Angus – MD, Penguin Swimming Pools (Construction) Limited.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Ed for the past 4 months now, and I am confident in saying I wouldn’t still be in business if it weren’t for him. When I first contacted Ed, the business I had started a year ago was in serious financial difficulty. Ed was able to work with me very quickly to secure the financing we needed to stay solvent and then help me to put together a plan to move things forward. Most importantly, he provided sound advice, a cool head, and a very calming manner! Ed has an uncanny knack of being able to look through all the noise, and zero in on precisely what’s needed. I look forward to our continued partnership, and the future success of the company.”

“At the risk of speaking too soon, this afternoon was incredible, Ed. I can see that you can see it, but I am struggling still to believe it.I've got to say, your efforts, knowledge and experience have been invaluable these last few months. I truly appreciate the talent and wisdom you have applied to our situation and I know there is genuine care in your instructions and help. Honestly, before I spoke to you in September, I was so weighed down with anxiety, scrambling and desperate for a way through. But I was also frustrated, because I could see the business starting to improve, things at last coming together after what has been a marathon ten months or longer of grinding daily to increase the revenue in a great optimistic belief that this would make all the problems go away. I am genuinely grateful of the calm you have restored to me, your metaphors and sense of humour, the quality of the contacts you have enlisted in this operation and the kind candour of your advice and recommendations. We are of course not out of the woods yet but I assure you I will stay on top of things to ensure the brand and business, as you would say, will not only survive, but thrive. I’m very glad to have you co-piloting through such turbulence.”

“ When I was first introduced to Ed Wood, I was wondering how best to deal with my failing business that I felt burdened with the responsibilities of. Having finally come to the realisation that my company was trading in an insolvent manner, I felt embarrassed and alone with the situation.
In all honesty, I did not know where to turn to, or what to do, and having had an initial conversation with an insolvency specialist, things looked dire, and like I might lose everything I had worked very hard to achieve.
The situation had become far more stressful than I had at the time appreciated, and in truth my home life was suffering from it on a daily basis. I was unaware at the time, but in hindsight, I was distracted constantly by the growing financial worries at work and what that would mean at home. I was irritable and unpleasant to be around, and worse, I was unable to pay proper and due attention to my wonderful children and partner. In short, I was embarrassed to admit this and the situation, to the people that matter most to me. Then I spoke to Ed.
After a brief introductory phone call with Ed, we arranged to speak again within the next 24 hours once he had had the time to digest my situation and consider whether he could be of assistance to me. Within the first 5 minutes of our first Zoom meeting, Ed questioned whether I felt the issues we were facing were due to cash flow issues, or whether the business itself was flawed in its conception and operations. This, it turned out, was a great question to ask, and was not something that I had really addressed myself, as I wallowed in anguish. This was, to me, the indicator that this man might be able to not only help with the current situation, but also to create a better one.
Over the course of the next hour, Ed and I discussed many aspects of the existing business - client base through to operations - and we came to the conclusion that the under pricing of our products and services was the main issue, this attractive more unprofitable work, and that fundamentally our production facilities were indeed very good snd not at fault. This discussed, it was determined that we were therefore suffering from severe cash flow issues since we had been surviving on deposits alone. This was a conclusion that our then accountants had never discussed or even suggested, and this further buoyed my confidence in the man I was speaking to.
Having determined this situation with Ed, we then discussed the overall financial situation of the company - debtors, creditors, assets, liabilities and staffing - which led to Ed's suggestion of voluntary insolvency, mean's to repurchasing production assets whilst effecting a TUPE handover for the staff to a new company,
This all seemed unbelievable to me at this moment. Here was someone suggesting to me, contrary to the previous counsel, that instead of simply throwing everything tot he wolves, that all might not - for my employees, for my family, and for me, There was, right in front of me, for the first time, in forever, hope.
So enthused, though not necessarily entirely sure of success, I engaged with Ed & Runway Advisors, and watched with amazement as he set about putting in place the appropriate parties to deal with the liquidation of one company, and the reforming of another, in an efficient, and entirely legal manner, whilst also introducing us to a wonderful accountants, and a knowledgable, capable HR team.
Since going through this restructuring process with Ed, we have now taken the necessary steps to move away from unprofitable clients, maintaining our staff structure and production assets, and to engage with he type of clients we had hoped to find. We now also have a proper financial management information on which to base sensible decisions going forward.
From a personal point of view, I am no longer the distract, frustrated and quite frankly unpleasant individual that I was at home, and I have once again become the loving, caring and attentive father that my children and partner deserve.
I have just contemplated the difference in my home life whilst writing this, and how I feel as a person, and I am staggered at how much happier and more content I find myself in life. And for this, I wholeheartedly, thank you, Ed.
So, I would "in a heartbeat!" recommend Ed Wood and Runway Advisors to others in a similar situation, or indeed to others looking to improve their business in a multitude of ways.
Anyone looking to better understand their business successes or short fillings would do well to discuss them with Ed. He has a keen head for business set upon strong shoulders, an excellent bedside manner, a good sense of humour, and is a true gentleman in his demeanour.
I thank you sincerely, Ed."

What My Clients' Accountants Say
I work closely with Accountants who want the best for their clients
Whether facing financial pressure or looking to grow with confidence, together, we help business owners take control, make clear decisions, and move forward with purpose.
It’s support that makes a real difference, and I can help.
“I have worked with Ed Wood and his colleagues, on the businesses of several clients - of different sizes, and from different sectors - over a number of years.
together, we have worked to make sure that those clients have, at all times, been provided with timely, informative and accurate management information - covering profitability and cashflow.”
“The initiation and insistence of monthly meetings have brought tangible benefits to the clients. They have come to us at different points in their life cycle, and, through setting goals and targets, they have bought into the need for real accountability. As a result, they have experienced real growth. While every case is different, we have seen extraordinary changes, and, usually, quite quickly. Some clients have told us that they felt very uncertain at the start of the process. Change can sometimes be difficult but the speed in which results are seen soon allays their fears and we have seen them greatly relieved as the process has developed.”
“I have greatly enjoyed working alongside Ed and his colleagues over the last two years, on the businesses of several diverse clients, from different sectors, and at different points in their life cycles. His extensive knowledge and straight-talking approach make him a valuable asset to both accountants and their clients. I am always impressed by how genuinely invested he is in supporting them and helping them to achieve their full potential - even if they may not always see it at first.
“Ed has generally led with these clients, starting by clarifying their goals and three-year plans, and then focusing on finance, team, structures & systems, products or services, and the all important marketing. Meeting together with them monthly - to ensure they have timely, informative and accurate management information - we have often seen some real synergy and growth. I would be very happy to recommend Ed to other accountants, whose work, like mine, might be magnified in value by such a collaboration with him, and who would like to engage with him to create greater growth and fulfilment in their clients. He is also fun to work with.”
“Ed’s approach starts by clarifying goals and setting a three-year plan, focussing on finance, team, structure & systems, products & services, and all-important marketing. We find our work as accountants to been magnified in value, and aside from our clients’ successes, we find the working relationships enjoyable and rewarding.”
“I would be very happy to recommend Ed to any business, or their accountants, who would like to engage with him to create greater growth and fulfilment. He is not only very effective, but fun to work with. His great talent is being able to remain calm at all times, focusing on solutions rather than problems. This releases clients to be able to focus on their businesses with reduced burdens.”
What Insolvency Practitioners Say
I work closely with Insolvency Practitioners working to achieve the
best outcome for their clients
It’s support that makes a real difference, and I can help.
“Initially, I was unsure about working with Ed. I hadn't worked with anyone before on a partner basis with my clients. But, very quickly, I started seeing the benefits. Ed is very good at calming stressed Directors and at playing the sheep dog to get the information we need, quickly, to avoid the usual wasted time that comes from delays in this area. I can now get a company through the liquidation process much faster - leaving me free to progress other cases”.
“If I'm honest, the amount of emotional labour Directors required from me was tiring. I had a rising case load, and just getting paperwork from Directors was taking too long. With Ed, all that is taken care of. Now I look forward to the day and doing what I do best. It's an added bonus to know that there is aftercare from Ed and his team: it’s good to see recoveries from a liquidation scenario and witness in practice the creation of new opportunities for change and growth."
